Creation is a Scientific Must

Science cannot tell you when the Earth began. Science can only predict based on existing laws and rules. If the rules were different in the past then science will be wrong. If you see a car driving on a straight road at 60 you can predict where he was 10 minutes ago only if he was always driving straight and at the same speed. You cannot use science to tell you what happened when the rules were different. If something caused the car to swerve you will be wrong. If the car came out of a side road you will be wrong. Science has to presume that there were none of these ifs.

Science does however give us much to use in understanding our present universe. The rules that it discovers help us integrate what the bible reveals with our everyday lives. That is the subject of this article but there is much more to be said on the subject of creation.

The Laws of Science

Science does tell us emphatically that the universe was created. The three laws of thermodynamics and Zeroths Law are some of the greatest proofs of creation. Thermodynamics is the study of energy.

The zeroth law of thermodynamics recognizes that if two systems are in thermal equilibrium with a third, they are also in thermal equilibrium with each other, thus supporting the notions of temperature and heat...WikipediaZeroth law of thermodynamicsWikipedia, the free encyclopediaWEB26 Jan. 12
This means that if you find any area in the universe that is thermodynamically stable then the whole universe is. This is because everywhere is next to somewhere else and if any spot is unstable then it will cause the adjacent spots to be out of equilibrium. But of course it isn't. There is no naturally occurring place in the universe where energy is not flowing. someone would have to make it so artificially supported by an external source.

The first law of thermodynamics distinguishes between two kinds of physical processes, namely energy transfer as work, and energy transfer as heat. It tells how this shows the existence of a mathematical quantity called the internal energy of a system. The internal energy obeys the principle of conservation of energy but work and heat are not defined as separately conserved quantities. Equivalently, the first law of thermodynamics states that perpetual motion machines of the first kind are impossible...WikipediaFirst law of thermodynamicsWikipedia, the free encyclopediaWEB26 Jan. 12

That is to say that everything has a finite amount of usable energy, that is, energy that can be used for work. When it is used it is gone. If the universe had been here infinitely long it would have used up it's energy.

The second law of thermodynamics distinguishes between reversible and irreversible physical processes. It tells how this shows the existence of a mathematical quantity called the entropy of a system, and thus it expresses the irreversibility of actual physical processes by the statement that the entropy of an isolated macroscopic system never decreases. Equivalently, perpetual motion machines of the second kind are impossible...WikipediaSecond law of thermodynamicsWikipedia, the free encyclopediaWEB26 Jan. 12

Energy can never be created or destroyed but it can become unavailable for productive use. Entropy can be considered as energy that cannot be put to productive use. This means that you cannot undo an energy transfer completely using only what you started with; some is always lost. Consequently when energy flows away from where it was created (as it always has to) it cannot return on its own. As a result everything runs out of energy and stops given enough time, since everything has a finite amount of energy from the first law. The universe had an energised beginning and has a finite lifespan, if it is not reenergised from and external source. If the energy always keeps going further away that leads us to consider something else. If energy is moving away at the edge of the universe (moving away from its source) then it has to go somewhere and create a new edge. The edge cannot be rigid unless the universe is contained in a great energy sink that sucks up everything at the edge. Because things do not bounce off the edge and come hurtling back towards the centre (but not actually reaching it) we can conclude that the universe is expanding. The scientific proof for an expanding universe is another topic called Red Shift.

The third law of thermodynamics concerns the entropy of a perfect crystal at absolute zero temperature, and implies that it is impossible to cool a system to exactly absolute zero, or, equivalently, that perpetual motion machines of the third kind are impossible.WikipediaThird law of thermodynamicsWikipedia, the free encyclopediaWEB26 Jan. 12

This basically says that there is a point where everything shuts down and stops functioning because all the energy has become unproductive and unavailable. As temperatures approach absolute zero everything stops because some energy must remain as entropy so you cannot keep going indefinitely.

So in my opinion creation of the universe is easy enough to prove. The universe did not start on its own. There are other considerations too, like the fact that it takes both anti-matter and matter in the right proportions to form spirals like galaxies, but the law of entropy is by far the oldest proof. An easy practical definition of entropy is uncontrollable energy. The second law states that entropy cannot be reduced in a given system but it can only increase. Let us compare entropy to tiredness. We have ten men carrying a load that needs six men to handle. Whenever they move and stop the tiredness of the crew increases and one man drops out. Eventually there will be so much tiredness that there will not be enough people to carry the load and it will drop at some random point. The tiredness must increase hence a tendency to disorder or decay. The implication of this is that you cannot leave a cheap watch lying around and expect it to become a Rolex; it will have a tendency to fall apart rather than improve. If it would be so hard for a watch then what about a cell or the proteins which are at the heart of cells which are far more complicated? Cells and proteins do not arbitrarily improve. So in addition to the universe having to be created, the cell and hence the human had to be created. The probabilities of the universe happening on its own is impossible and the the possibility of a complex protein happening on its own is impossible and when you put two impossibles together you get ridiculously impossible. God gives us enough in the visible world to know that there is an unseen world and powers beyond man's control and understanding. In order to avoid associating their 'pure' thinking with the Bible, science now talks about the Earth being seeded but it boils down to the same thing i.e. somebody made all this and put us here.

But it is when we go beyond this knowledge that problems arise. Science prefers to believe in a god that did all this and left no instructions so that they can figure it out themselves and show how smart they are. Remember, that the fact that there is a creation means that there is a creator or god. If you assume that the god of creation is chance then your god is chance but you still have a god nevertheless.Atheist have a god it is just the their god is chance, things just happen, well, to each his own. A similar pride seems to be the approach of much of Christianity and spiritual thinkers as well. Everybody wants to make God in their own image instead of diligently trying to discover and obey what He says. But I believe that God not only left instructions but He left us accountable for the time we have been given to use the Earth. God said that there will be a time when He will discard the ones that did not follow directions and keep the ones that did, because that is what is important to Him, not intelligence (He can give that away like dust) but that is a longer story. And then there are the Christians who insist that everything is as at face value and insist on knowing the precise time when everything came into existence. These also create problems. They make claims that when disproved can cause peoples faith to waver or collapse.

I liken their position to the position some take on Enoch where persons insist that Enoch went to heaven when Christ specifically says that nobody has.

John 3:13 (KJV)
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

With creation many people insist that the Earth did not exist before the six days of creation even though later in the Bible Christ talks of activities with the Earth that happened before then, but I am getting ahead of myself with that subject.

Of course this means that as far as the time of everything coming into existence is concerned I am not going to make any categorical claims but I will state what I believe and why. I will hope to be counselled by wiser persons than myself and perhaps grow as a result

The Earth was not created for man but for God. It was created to bring Him pleasure.

Revelation 4:11 (KJV)
11Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Colossians 1:16-17 (KJV)
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Mankind is so conceited as to believe that it is for them. People have a high degree of self importance but very little God importance but it in reality it is all about God NOT man. It is all about God's glory.

Isaiah 43:6-7 (KJV)
6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; 7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

When the universe was originally created it did just that

Job 38:7 (KJV)
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

And mankind was intended to do the same

Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

So in summary, God created the universe for Himself and put man here with instructions. We have both science and His instructions to confirm that. Those who claim to be ignorant of those instructions are not absolved. We are all accountable on the day of reckoning. Those of us who think that we have an understanding of this have a responsibility to get it right because it is our attitude that is important.
